material salvage bannable?
no, not like that
i heard something unclear about GW2, and the guy is afraid its like this in GW now i'm curious too, so here comes: if i'd buy steel ingots, then salvage them into iron ingots, and sell em to the trader for profit (IF they make profit out of it), would that be a ban-risky "exploit" ? i dont know what happens in GW2, so i cant say about what happened, but in case, i ask it here, about GW (of course) |

The answer to this is always technically yes as Anet reserve the right to ban you for whatever reason they feel like but it's not something I'd be worried about. This is effectively no different to power trading, just with a lot more tedious rsi-inducing double clicking. I can't imagine you'd do much better than break even, and even if you do the cash/hour would be poor.
PS: Any links to that GW2 thing you're talking about? I imagine they'd have more important things to do than this (and if it was meaningfully profitable, the prices would probably balance themselves out anyway).

and no, he just heard something like that, no screens (meaning he doesnt know much about it at all) i just asked in case it could be nice if some materials become worth MUCH more, and the rare ones where you'd salvage em from, being way lower in prices i doubt it'd happen, as its just buying rare materials and salvage em, which anet made possible but i rather know, and tell him, so we both know, in case this wasnt my plan, but maybe will be a nice idea in the future, and if its not bannable, of course |

The thing in GW2 was the following (according to my understanding, and I could be wrong):
You use x amount of ectos to craft an object; you salvage x+1 to x+3 ectos from that object; you win by coming out ahead on ectos. I doubt anything like that would happen here, there just isn't the volume of crafting/salvaging that went on in GW2. |

I just checked...Buy a steel for 180g, salvage to 4 iron and sell these for 168g ( trader pays 420g for 10 iron)
In this case you loose a small amount, but it isnt impossible that prices can move so you make a small profit. My guess is that prices would adjust pretty fast and that you would never be able to make any large profit. I also agree with Marty and Sofonisba. This is making a small profit from tedious clicking and interacting with NPC's that would eventually adjust prices to close the gap and thus remove the profit. No real offense. It is not like the GW2 case where people could virtually craft their own ectos at the expense of some lesser materials and got banned for crafting large amounts of them. |
